Operation Thoofan has reportedly begun in Thiruvananthapuram, after Excise officials seized massive quantities of illegal narcotic substances during a major intelligence-led anti-drug raid.
A major anti-narcotics operation named “Operation Thoofan” has reportedly begun in Vellayani, Thiruvananthapuram, following what officials describe as one of the largest recent illegal drug seizures in the region.
According to information emerging through local television reports, the Excise Department detained a suspect identified as Ameer from Karnataka late yesterday night after receiving prior intelligence inputs regarding narcotics distribution networks operating in Thiruvananthapuram. Authorities initially seized nearly 100 kg of narcotic substances allegedly found in the suspect’s possession before conducting a larger raid at the storage facility. Subsequent searches reportedly resulted in the seizure of approximately 4,000 kg of illegal substances from the rented house in Vellayani.
Reports further claim that the accused, along with associates, had allegedly been distributing narcotics across parts of Thiruvananthapuram, with activity reportedly concentrated around the Beemapally Mosque region and Vellayani areas.Custody Incident and International Link Allegation
In another dramatic development, the accused reportedly attempted self-harm inside custody using a pair of scissors during questioning.
Reporter TV has further claimed that the narcotic substances may have originated from Bangkok, though official confirmation regarding the international supply route has not yet been publicly released by enforcement agencies.
If officially confirmed, the seizure could become one of the most significant narcotics crackdowns in southern Kerala in recent times. Authorities are expected to investigate possible interstate and international trafficking links connected to the operation.
